An overnight journey across the Red Sea to explore Bayadah Island a submerged sandbank often called an island despite having no visible land.

Located approximately 40 minutes by speedboat from Jeddah, Bayadah Island is one of the Red Sea's most unusual destinations. Despite being known as an island, it is actually a submerged sandbank hidden beneath shallow turquoise waters. This documentary follows an overnight expedition that begins with late-night fishing in the open sea and continues into the morning with swimming, snorkeling, and exploring one of the region's most remarkable marine environments. Through aerial views, underwater sequences, and observational storytelling, the film captures the beauty and mystery of a place that seems to disappear beneath the water itself.

The Story

The journey begins after midnight aboard a small boat leaving the shores of Jeddah. As the city lights fade behind the horizon, the focus shifts to the experience of fishing under the night sky and spending hours surrounded only by the open sea. With sunrise comes a completely different landscape. The destination is Bayadah Island, a location famous for its crystal-clear waters and the unusual fact that no visible land exists above the surface. What appears on maps as an island reveals itself as a vast underwater sandbank, creating the illusion of standing in the middle of the sea. Through snorkeling, exploration, and personal observation, the film documents one of the Red Sea's most unique natural phenomena.

Behind The Scenes

Filmed during an overnight Red Sea expedition using a lightweight documentary filmmaking setup. Production included low-light filming aboard a moving boat, overnight fishing sequences, sunrise aerial coverage, snorkeling footage, and drone operations over shallow turquoise waters.

One of the most dramatic moments occurred when the drone suddenly lost satellite connection above the open sea and could no longer return to the boat. With limited options available, the drone was manually guided toward the nearest vessel visible on the horizon. After landing safely on the unfamiliar boat, the crew began a search across the Red Sea to locate it. The drone was eventually recovered, turning what could have been a complete equipment loss into one of the most memorable behind-the-scenes moments of the entire journey.

Changing marine conditions, nighttime filming, and production from both above and below the water made this one of the most challenging shoots of the project.
